Facebook Marketplace Not Available in Serbia: Why, and What to Use Instead
Moved to Serbia and cannot find the Marketplace tab on Facebook? It is not a bug: the service was never officially launched here. Here is what to use instead.
Why there is no Marketplace
Facebook Marketplace operates in a limited list of countries, and Serbia (like most non-EU Balkan countries) is not on it. That is why the Marketplace tab never appears in the app, and links to other people's listings open with "this item isn't available in your region." VPN tricks let you browse other people's listings, but buying something that is physically in another country makes little sense.
Replacement #1: Facebook groups
Facebook itself is alive and well here: buy-and-sell groups fill the role Marketplace would — both Serbian ones ("prodaja", "buvljak" in the name) and Russian-speaking relocant groups. The format has the same downsides as any chat: no search, no seller profile with history, moderation depends entirely on the admins.
Replacement #2: local classifieds sites

- Viewing before buying is the norm: serious buyers come to see the item in person;
- payment is almost always cash on meetup, prepayment is a red flag (safety rules);
- haggling is expected, but more modest than in the East: 5–15% off the price.
