Classifieds Sites in the Balkans: Njuškalo, bolha.com, OLX.ba — and Where Ovdix Fits In

Every Balkan country has its own leading classifieds site: Njuškalo in Croatia, bolha.com (formerly bolha.si) in Slovenia, OLX.ba in Bosnia. All three work great for locals and all three are awkward for newcomers: the interface is in the local language, which makes it hard both to post a listing and to negotiate with a seller. We go through each platform and show a workaround.

Croatia: Njuškalo

Njuškalo is the largest classifieds site in Croatia, covering everything from apartments in Zagreb to used furniture. The catch for newcomers: the site is in Croatian, there’s no Russian or English version, and sellers reply in Croatian. Reading it with your browser’s auto-translate is manageable — selling is already a quest. Offline in Zagreb, it’s worth knowing about Hrelić (Jakuševec), one of the largest flea markets in the region; check the days and opening hours before you go.

Slovenia: bolha.com (formerly bolha.si)

In Slovenia, bolha.com ("bolha" means flea) plays the same role as the country’s main classifieds site. The old address bolha.si now redirects to bolha.com, and the site is run by Styria digital marketplaces d.o.o. You register with an e-mail address — no local phone number needed. Posting is free in most categories, but some are paid: according to bolha.com’s price list, at the time of writing a smartphone listing costs €2.19 for 15 days. The barrier is the same as in Croatia, though: the interface is in Slovenian, and so are the conversations with sellers.

Bosnia: OLX.ba

OLX.ba is the largest platform in Bosnia and Herzegovina, operated by Pik d.o.o. Listings come from across the country, from Sarajevo to Banja Luka, with a strong car market. The language is Bosnian, and deals are usually settled in cash when you meet in person, as elsewhere in the Balkans. Note that OLX as a brand doesn’t operate in Croatia or Slovenia: olx.hr and olx.si lead to the international olx.com, which doesn’t list either country — there, Njuškalo and bolha.com fill that role.

The shared problem: language and "one market — one platform"

If you’ve moved to the region or live across several countries, local boards bring two headaches. First, language: posting a listing in Croatian, Slovenian or Bosnian without knowing the language is hard, and a machine-translated listing is obvious at a glance — it doesn’t build trust. Second, fragmentation: in every country you register from scratch on a new platform and learn its rules. Sell a car in Zagreb, move to Ljubljana — and you’re starting over.

Where Ovdix fits in

Ovdix tackles both problems: one platform covers nine countries in the region, and listings and seller chats are automatically translated into 10 languages — you write in your own language, and a Croatian or Slovenian buyer sees the text in theirs, and vice versa. To be honest, in Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia there are only a handful of listings on Ovdix so far — the platform is just entering these markets, so for a wide choice the local leaders remain the place to go.
